Britton native won NBA title in 1958

Mike Miller is the first South Dakota native to claim an NBA crown since Britton native Medford Park and his St. Louis Hawks won the 1958 title.

“Med” Park was born in Britton on April 11, 1933, but grew up in Lexington, Mo., where he went to high school. He went on to play for the University of Missouri.

The 6-foot-2, 205-pound Park played in the NBA from 1956 until 1960 for the St. Louis Hawks and Cincinnati Royals. Over 5 seasons, he played 313 games, scored 1924 points (6.1 ppg) and grabbed 967 rebounds (3.1 rpg). Park also dished out 532 assists (1.7 apg), made steals (0.0 spg), and blocked shots (0.0 bpg) during his career.
